A huge £128 million development including 375 new homes will be built next to the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal Football Club has now agreed a deal with developers Barratt London to start work on the housing site in Queensland Road, Highbury, in January.

Barratt will build three residential towers and 440 square metres of commercial space within three years.

Over the past six years, a total of 2,500 homes have been created in Ashburton Grove alongside the stadium

The scheme in Queensland Road is the final housing element of the Emirates deal which has been the subject of fierce debate and at times strong opposition from Highbury residents.

Arsenal FC Director Ken Friar said: “The stadium project has delivered huge regeneration to the Islington.

“I am proud that we stayed in Islington and proud that Arsenal has helped contribute to the local community in this way.”

Barratt London is working with a housing association L & Q which will be selling the new homes from September.

L & Q offers schemes aimed at first time buyers - but not for people on social benefits.

Alastair Baird, regional managing director of Barratt London, said:

“The homes will be situated literally yards from the stadium and we expect them to become sought after by Gunners fans.”
