Islington’s 153 bus route has gone fully electric in an attempt to clean up London’s terrible air.

The single-decker service runs through Finsbury Park, Holloway, Barnsbury and Finsbury.

It’s the fourth Transport for London (TfL) bus route to go electric and not pump out nasty exhaust fumes. The fleet of 12 will replace older diesel models, reducing CO2 emissions by 40 per cent.

Claire Mann, director of bus operations at TfL, said: “We are delighted that another of our bus routes has gone fully electric. It’s important that we clean up London’s polluted air and these new buses on the 153 route are helping our transport become greener.

“These buses are also less noisy, providing passengers with a more comfortable journey.”

The move is part of mayor of London Sadiq Khan’s transport strategy to make the capital’s bus network fully zero emission by 2037. City Hall aims to have 250 zero emission single-deck buses by 2020.
