THE annual TV licence fee is grossly excessive. No wonder you report the detection of increasing numbers of TV licence dodgers (Gazette, August 18). It's not a question of can't pay, won't pay. New 19-inch and 22-inch TV Combis are on sale for �149, a fraction more than they cost to licence.
And when it comes to Bank Holiday weekends, not one terrestrial channel is prepared to have a quality late night programme. So, there are many reasons for TV licence evasion! - Jim Redmond, Mornington Crescent, NW1.
