Joel Williams, 14, died following an accident on the North Circular

A family has paid tribute to a “loving and caring” teenager who was killed while crossing a busy road.

Joel Williams, 14, from Davenant Road, Upper Holloway, was left fighting for his life following a collision on the North Circular at around 3.30pm last Tuesday.

The Highbury Grove pupil was rushed to hospital with head injuries but died the following morning.

Daniel Williams, 24, one of Joel’s nine brothers and sisters, said: “He was a very loving and caring boy and his child-like behaviour and antics will be remembered by the whole family.”

He added: “We’re all devastated by what has happened. Joel was known for his joyful behaviour and loved to play with his friends in the neighbourhood. He was improving at school and enjoyed looking after his younger sister who had recently started there. He was loved very much by all. The family believes Joel is not gone, just sleeping.”

Highbury Grove School held a special assembly for Joel on Monday and has arranged a book in which students can write their memories.

The book will be presented to his family at a later date.

Rhiannon Hughes, headteacher at the Highbury Grove School, said: “There is a very sad atmosphere at the moment. You can’t help be affected even if you didn’t know him closely. He was part of the Highbury Grove family.

“I didn’t know him that well personally, but I remember how lively and enthusiastic he was.”

Two Facebook pages have been set up in honour of Joel, both of which have been flooded by tributes from friends.

One read: “I remember when you always used to make everyone smile and happy when they were down. I remember when I was upset you always found some way to cheer me up.

“Bye Joel you’re in a better place where you can’t get hurt any more. You’re gone but never forgotten.”

Another said: “You made me smile like no one else could. I can’t believe you’ve been taken from us, rest in perfect paradise baby boy. Miss You.”
