A Finsbury Park lottery business will probably have to change its name after a “competitor” threatened legal action.
Free Postcode Lottery, in Morris Place, is the world’s first first free-to-enter lottery company. As reported in the Gazette, it has grown ever more successful. But now it’s been caught in a legal row.
In an email to subscribers on Sunday, founder Chris Holbrook explained: “A paid postcode lottery service called People’s Postcode Lottery are suing us for trademark infringement and ‘passing off’.
“We’ve pointed out that we are doing neither of those things, but despite our innocence and best efforts to try and resolve this with them, it’s looking like we are going to change our name. Why? Because they have a ton of money, and they are threatening the roof over my daughters’ heads.”
He added subscribers have been “overwhelmingly supportive” and that he’s “considering all suggestions”.
