A £2million project to create affordable workspaces and jobs in Finsbury Park is on the way after Sadiq Khan approved the council’s bid for funding.
The £1m grant from the mayor’s Good Growth Fund will be matched by the town hall and invested in at least four new workspaces creating 140 jobs. Two buildings in and around Fonthill Road will be bought to support the area’s emerging fashion and tech firms and a council block will be renovated with affordable workspace for community groups.
Business chief Cllr Asima Shaikh said it would help deliver the borough’s “inclusive economy” model
“This is fantastic news for all those in Finsbury Park with the ideas, passion, talent and ambition to start their own business,” she said. “Too often small businesses are priced out of the area or can’t find affordable places to turn their dreams into reality.”
Twelve disused garages on the Andover estate will also become workspaces.
