A building site went up in flames in the middle of the night yesterday.

The site in Providence Place, Islington, where flats are being built, caught fire at around 1.30am yesterday (Wednesday).

Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters rushed to the scene and had the blaze under control in around an hour. Much of the site and a fork lift truck were damaged.

A firefighter at Kingsland fire station said: “It was a building site. It wasn’t that serious, there were a lot of flames but there was no one there.”

The cause is under investigation.
