Fire breaks out in disused Islington Church

A fire broke out at a disused church in Highbury on Monday afternoon.
A total of eight fire engines and 58 firefighters and officers tackled the fire at the church in Highbury Quadrant.
A man who left the building before the Fire Brigade arrived was treated at the scene by the London Ambulance Service for smoke inhalation.
Fire engines from Holloway, Homerton, Stoke Newington, Tottenham, Islington, Kentish Town and Hornsey fire stations attended the incident.
The fire affected most of the ground floor of the two-storey octagonal church building and a small part of the roof was damaged.
Firefighters were called to the incident at 4:41pm and the fire was under control at 6.58pm. The cause of the fire is not yet known at this stage.
