Islington Council has refurbished football pitches in three of its parks.
The town hall has invested £350,000 to improve the pitches in Paradise Park, Holloway; Whittington Park, Upper Holloway; and Rosemary Gardens at the south-east border with Hackney.
The money came from Section 106 agreements with property companies. The measure is meant to offset the negative impact of nearby housing developments.
Islington health leader Cllr Janet Burgess said: “These fantastic resurfaced pitches in our parks are a great place to have fun, and to help our residents stay fit and healthy.”
Whittington Park, the home of women’s football in Islington, also has new goals and line markings. More women’s teams are being invited to join the successful Islington Women’s Football League (IWFL) on Tuesday evenings in the park.
