PAPA John’s will be giving away 50 free pizzas at its Islington branch on Saturday to celebrate the American chain’s tenth birthday in the UK.

Hungry locals who join Islington Mayor, Councillor Mouna Hamitouche at the branch in Upper Street, Islington at midday to unveil a commemorative plaque will get a free munch for their troubles.

“Papa” John Schnatter founded the company in the USA in 1984 and the first new UK Papa John’s opened in 2001.

Mr Schnatter said: “We’re absolutely delighted that the Mayor will be helping us celebrate our first decade in the UK, as we invite people in Islington to join our party and sample our delicious pizza for free. Our ‘Better Ingredients. Better Pizza’ philosophy means there are quality toppings on every single base.”
