Perhaps Ashmount Primary School subscribes to the view that "the prime reason why today's youngsters need to push forward with their education is because their generation will need to compete in a globalised labour market", but outsourcing maths teaching to India only serves to illustrate how unsustainable this philosophy is.
Some of these children will aspire to teach when they grow up and they will then be competing with teachers operating from abroad who are paid at a rate equivalent to the current �7 per hour, below even the "London Living Wage", depending as it does on the support of benefits.
We have naively allowed market fundamentalism to infect even our primary schools and here we see the result. Even 11-year-olds are now blessed with the "choice" of who will teach them their sums - but far from assuring them a better job when they grow up, the downside is that they look forward to unemployment.
