A 1920s-themed charity ‘speakeasy’ event organised by Oxjam Islington raised nearly �3,000 for the charity Oxfam.
The prohibition-style party offered guests a spectacular display of fine dining and entertainment at The Islington Metal Works, Torrens Street.
Catering was by Gary Rhodes’ head chef Andrew Barkham and his team while entertainment came in the form of singer-songwriters Hannah Stacey and Arthur Lea, and performances by the Puppini Sisters, Sister Mary and the Choirboys, Xsara and The Wavytones.
Oxjam Islington’s event co-ordinator, Barry Causton, said: “The speakeasy was a roaring success and the feedback from the night has been incredible – not to mention the �2,850 raised for Oxfam. I am extremely grateful to everyone – the chef, musicians and volunteers – who donated their time to making the speakeasy a night to remember.”
It was just one of the events held in the run-up to Oxjam Islington’s Takeover festival, which is taking place on October 12 and 13.
It will see ten venues along Islington’s Upper Street take part in a showcase of musical talent involving more than 90 acts.
