LIBERAL Democrat Councillor Julie Horten (Viewpoints, Gazette, September 9) is trying to pick holes in Islington Labour's successful policy of free school meals for all primary school children. She doesn't succeed.
Free school meals for all is a massive success. Four out of every five children in Islington primary schools now have a healthy school lunch and many, many families have been helped out of the poverty trap because of Islington Labour's policy.
The Lib Dem-Tory government's unfair and unnecessary cuts are going to hit families in Islington hard. The least the council can do to protect families from Nick Clegg and David Cameron is to help ensure that the borough's children are well fed. - Councillor Richard Watts, Labour councillor for Tollington ward, Town Hall, Upper Street, N1.
