Overground stations between Gospel Oak and Barking will shut for several weekends, and for one longer period later in the year, to allow electrification of the line.

The job was meant to be finished during the recent eight-month closure, but was hampered because parts the wrong size had been ordered.

It’s due to be done before February but more detail about the timetable will emerge by the end of April, Network Rail vowed this week.

Crouch Hill bridge is likely to need raising, too, but this may be done after the electrification works.

Network Rail does not plan to hold a public consultation on altering the bridge. “There wouldn’t be an official consultation, but we would hold a drop-in information event,” a spokesperson said.

As well as Crouch Hill, the line runs through Upper Holloway, extending west into Camden and east through Haringey, Waltham Forest, Newham and Barking.
