The leader of HMP Holloway was last night awarded a CBE - months before it is due to close.
Julia Killick. governor of the women’s jail, was named in the new year honours list for services to the prison service.
Chancellor of the exchequer George Osborne announced last month that the prison, in Parkhurst Road, will close in the summer.
Inmates will be transferred to HMP Bronzefield and HMP Downview, both in Surrey.
Ms Killick, of Shepperton, Middlesex, was joined on the list by Kathleen O’Rourke, vice chair of the governing body at City and Islington College. She will be awarded an MBE for services to further education.
