A Greek bar and restaurant that woke neighbours with loud bouzouki music has lost its licence and equipment.

Mythopolis, in City Road, Finsbury, will have to close at 11pm and can only have background music after a decision by an Islington Council licensing committee last week.

They previously had thousands of pounds of music equipment seized in a council raid – and the town hall might not give it back.

Cllr Paul Convery, Islington Council’s executive member for community safety and public protection, said: “Local families have the right to enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep and the council acts to prevent licensed premises creating a nuisance.

“Since 2011, Mythopolis has repeatedly ignored the concerns of residents and our warnings to turn music levels down.

“They blew their last chance when, before Christmas, we had to seize sound equipment to prevent further nuisance occurring.

“Licensed premises need to respect their communities and if they don’t we’ll revoke their licence.”

The club has 21 days to appeal against the decision.
