Aspiring performers from a Hackney youth club got the chance to tread the boards at one of Islington’s premier theatres.
A group of 15 young people who attend Pembury Youth Club, Pembury Close, took part in a drama workshop which saw them try out mprovisation, acting and comedy as well as getting an insight into what takes place behind the scenes including props, script writing and directing.
The workshop and performance is just one project offered by Peabody which offers a wide range of opportunities and support services for young people in Hackney.
Layla Belbachir, 14, who took part in the project, said: “It was inspiring for me to do the performance and it is something that I want to do as a career.”
Peabody’s Pembury Youth Club is open Mondays 5.30-8pm and Wednesdays 6.30-9pm and offers a wide-range of weekly activities during term-time, as well as varied school holiday activities programmes and residentials.
