I HOPE local people will support the library in Essex Road, Islington, in light of the fact that the Conservative-Liberal Democrat Government is planning a purge on local libraries.
Think of what we would lose if this happens. The staff in our local library are helpful and friendly, you can use a computer, hire CDs and DVDs, borrow books, take out an audio book for the visually impaired – and even rest a while if us old ’uns are out of breath during the shopping.
Essex Road library was built during in World War One, and completed in 1916 when many Islington men died in France and Belgium fighting for our right to free speech. So let us use this right and say hands off our libraries! – Len Little, Canonbury Road, N1.
