Businesses are this week being urged to give disabled people a job.
The Islington Learning and Disabilities Employment Initiative, set up by Islington Council, say more disabled people could be in work with local employers which would offer more opportunities.
The challenge was made at a business breakfast during Learning Disabilities Week, which runs until Friday, aiming to debunk the myth people with a learning disabilities cannot work.
Cllr Catherine West, Leader of Islington Council said: “People with learning disabilities experience some of the highest levels of unemployment in the country. Most want to work, do a really good job and enjoy the routine of practical work in familiar surroundings. So it’s only fair they get a chance to achieve.”
