Former Arsenal captain Kenny Sansom was rushed to hospital after he collapsed outside a Gunners-themed pie shop in Holloway.
The Arsenal and England legend, who was capped 86 times, collapsed in front of Piebury Corner in Holloway Road at about 12.30pm yesterday.
Customers and staff rushed to his aid, before he was taken by ambulance to the Whittington Hospital in Magdala Avenue, Archway.
Sansom, 54, who played for the Gunners from 1980 to 1988, leads stadium tours at the Emirates Stadium and was wearing his Arsenal tie.
Nicky Campbell, who runs the pie shop with her husband Paul, said: “It was quite dramatic for us all to witness it. We were all running around like headless chickens trying to help.
“We wish him all the best. We would love him to pop in and tell us he’s alright.”
Paul Campbell said: “We just wish him a speedy recovery. We wish him well and we just want to know he’s alright.”
A spokesman for the London Ambulance Service said: “We were called to reports of a patient taken unwell in Holloway Road. We sent a single responder in a car and one ambulence crew to the scene. Staff treated one patient, a 54-year-old male, who was taken to Whittington Hospital as a priority.”
