A pair of green-fingered pupils were invited to a a national food awards ceremony after their school scooped a prestigious prize for its garden.
Alexia Soteriadou and Ruby Miles, both 10 and from Pooles Park Primary School, in Lennox Road, Finsbury Park, joined food critics, restaurateurs, broadcasters and chefs for a blind tasting at the Organic Food Awards.
The invitation came after Pooles Park was handed the title of Best School Community Initiative for their Global Food Garden – where children are responsible for growing organic, global food from seeds at the school.
Ruby, a chicken monitor at the garden, said: “It’s amazing. There are thousands of other schools in the competition, so winning is astonishing.”
Alexia Soteriadou, a plant manager, added: “It was really fun because you can taste different types of bread and give your own opinions to the judges of what you like and dislike.”
