Islington free health checks

Free NHS health checks are being offered to people living in Islington in a bid to cut premature deaths from heart disease, which kills 151 residents each year.

NHS Islington and the council have linked up to give ‘while you wait’ check-ups to visitors to Islington’s Citizens Advice Bureau. Visitors will complete a lifestyle survey and have their weight, height, blood pressure and cholesterol measured to assess the risk of them having heart problems.

Results can be discussed with a health professional.

Anyone between 35 and 74 is eligible for a NHS health check every five years.

Cllr Janet Burgess, executive member for health and adult social care, said: “These checks will encourage people to take responsibility for managing their own health and reduce their risk of developing problems.”
