Ice enthusiasts young and old headed to a special day at the former home of London’s coolest product.
London Canal Museum, New Wharf Road, King’s Cross, held the event on Saturday to celebrate the completion of improvement work – including stabilising their two giant underground ice wells.
The museum used to be the warehouse of Swiss entrepreneur Carlo Gatti – the first man to sell ice cream to the public – to store the ice he imported from frozen lakes in Norway.
Activities on the day included science workshops exploring ice molecules, making sub zero art and learning techniques from the ice-cream queen.
Some hardy souls even braved the depths of the former ice wells – the only ones in London still open to the public.
