Jeremy Corbyn spent the day as a milk monitor at a Newington Green school to celebrate world milk day.

The MP for Islington North headed to Newington Green Primary School as part of the event, designed to encourage children to drink more milk and understand its nutritional benefits.

In the UK, an estimated 1.5million children under the age of five receive free milk every day, while pupils aged five to 11 receive subsidised milk.

Abi Misselbrook-Lovejoy, headteacher at the school, said: “Milk provides our children with essential nutrients for their growth and development.

“We feel school milk is essential to support our children and mitigate the effects of food poverty.”
