A TV fitness guru ran a keep-fit class for elderly residents in a campaign against “barriers” they face to exercise outside the home.
Derrick Evans, more widely known as former GMTV star Mr Motivator, teamed up with Centra Care and Support to run the exercise class at Brightwell Court, a sheltered housing scheme in Mackenzie Road, Holloway.
Mr Motivator, 63, said at Thursday’s event: “Many older people do want to keep active but face barriers when it comes to completing activity that involves them leaving the home.
“That’s why I’m backing Centra’s campaign to encourage more people to take advantage of telecare technology that will give them more confidence to take up exercise inside and outside the home.”
Four out of five over-65s said that barriers prevent them from taking up a wider variety of exercise outside the home - and nearly a quarter of over-65s carry out no exercise at all.
