AN NHS boss who was behind controversial plans to downgrade The Whittington Hospital and sell off Finsbury Health Centre has left north London.
Rachel Tyndall, the chief executive of NHS North Central London and the former chief executive of NHS Islington, is taking up a new London-wide post looking at cancer care.
As chief executive of NHS North Central London, Ms Tyndall considered downgrading The Whittington, in Magdala Avenue, Archway, and closing its accident and emergency, maternity and intensive care units.
As chief executive of NHS Islington, Ms Tyndall also considered selling off Finsbury Health Centre in Pine Street, Finsbury, because it would be so expensive to do up the Grade I-listed building.
Both plans have now been dropped.
Ms Tyndall’s husband, Martin Lerner, is already the divisional manager for cancer services at University College London Hospitals in Euston.
Ms Tyndall will be replaced at NHS North Central London by Caroline Taylor, who has been chief executive of NHS Croydon since 2002.
