The Hen and Chickens is set to re-open tomorrow

A popular theatre pub is set to re-open a week after it was hit by fire.

The stage above the Hen and Chickens, in St Pauls Road, Highbury, is scheduled for action tomorrow after flames ripped through the building last Tuesday.

The venue was re-floored, re-plastered, and re-wired in what artistic director James Wren called a mammoth effort where people worked through the night.

He said: ”When I saw the flames coming through the windows I thought we had lost the place, now I can raise a cold glass of beer to all the people who worked so hard to get got it back on it’s feet.

“The hen is a tough old bird.”

The first show since the fire will be Ordinary Darkness, at 7.30pm tomorrow.

Me Wren said: “it’s about a dreamer, a schemer, a player and a banker who all go to a party. At the end of the night, only one is left smiling.”
