Nationwide social media drive to get staff to introduce themselves properly

The Whittington is backing a nationwide campaign to get nurses and doctors to get friendly with patients.

Hello my name is... was launched as a social media movement by Kate Granger, a terminally ill doctor.

The idea behind her campaign is to remind her NHS colleagues to get back to basics and introduce themselves to patients properly.

Philippa Davies, director of nursing and patient experience at Whittington Health, which runs the hospital in Magdala Avenue, Archway, said: “We are delighted to support this campaign, which highlights the importance of treating patients as people.

“We are asking staff to tell patients their name, reminding them to introduce colleagues who are taking over following a shift change and to make sure name badges are visible at all times.

“This way our patients and their families will always know who is looking after them, which in turn will help them to relax and feel safe while in our care. Hello my name is… has become a social movement within the NHS and shows how the smallest things can make the biggest difference to our patients.”
