MY name is Graham Walters and I have been tracing my family roots now for a couple of years.

I am particularly interested in finding my Wells family who lived in Islington.

My grandfather Arthur William Wells was born in 1877 to Henry and Mary Ann Wells. Henry and Mary Ann had five other children - Sarah (1862), Emma (1867), Mary (1870), Jane (1872) and Eliza (1875). Arthur suffered an accident when he was four or five years old which required the amputation of his leg in the German Hospital on Dalston Road. Arthur's mother who was a very hard working lady, holding down two jobs while looking after her children and her husband who was ill with cancer, had to put Arthur into the care of Dr Barnardo's Home in about 1881. Arthur had a good record of his time in Dr Barnardo's and trained as a tailor, later becoming a master tailor and living out his life in Dorset.

I have found Arthur's family in 1891 living in Mildmay Avenue and in 1901 his mother Mary was living in Hackney with her daughter Eliza, now married to Joseph Duberry. Arthur's uncle, Joseph Wells, in 1901 was living in Orchard Street, Balls Pond, and in 1881 was living in Cross Street, Balls Pond. Joseph was married to Helen and his children were Thomas (1856), Agnes (1857) Eliza (1859), Alice (1860), James (1864), Joseph (1867), Emily (1868) and William (1871).

I would dearly love to hear from anyone who may be related to me through the Wells family. If you would like to get in touch - my evening telephone number is 01664 566967. - Graham Walters, Leicestershire.
