A man accused of murdering his best friend with a knife is facing a retrial.

Norman Newmarch, 59, allegedly stabbed Rodney Hickford 29 times inside the victim’s flat in Thornhill Road, Barnsbury, in April last year.

Newmarch, of Florence Street, Islington, has admitted manslaughter but denied murder.

He was on trial at the Old Bailey but jurors had to be discharged for legal reason after two days deliberation

The alleged knifeman will re-appear at the same court tomorrow to be given a date for the retrial.
