This week 60 years ago: Islington woman finds razor blade in her cheese roll

A woman took a bite of a cheese roll - and found a broken razor blade embedded in it.
Baker W. Dickens, of Essex Road, pleaded guilty to selling the offending roll to Sarah Stephenson, of nearby Greenman Street.
“It was not of the quality demanded,” Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court heard.
The roll had been supplied to a cafe, where Mrs Stephenson bought it.
Mr Dickens told the court: “I feel very sorry about it. It’s an absolute mystery how it got in there. There is no question of any of my employees shaving at the bakery.”
Magistrate Seymour Collins said: “It was a very unpleasant thing for her to find.”
Mr Dickens was fined £3.
