AN ISLINGTON choir is to hold their biggest ever Christmas concert this weekend, with over 100 local singers taking part.

The Islington Choral Society will perform Bach’s Christmas Oratorio at St. Alban’s Church, in Brooke Street, Holborn, on Saturday December 11 at 6.30pm.

Choir Chairman, John Leslie said: “We’ve planned the timing of the concert so that you can finish your shopping in town and come along for an hour to get a dose of amazing Christmassy music, before heading home for your dinner and the X Factor.”

The 114-strong choir, which rehearses at Highbury Baptist Church, in Highbury Place, Highbury, will be accompanied by the Camden Chamber Orchestra as they perform the seasonal piece, which features four soloist performances. The choir has had a big increase in membership over the last three years and the singers are excited to showcase their talents to local residents.

Mr Leslie said: “It’s really lovely that so many locals will be performing and we only hope that local people will come along to support us. We’ve had big performances before, but this is a record for us. I think we must be one of the biggest choirs in London.”
