Students and staff at Highbury Fields school were celebrating yesterday after the school achieved its highest ever set of A-level results.
And it came as no surprise to headteacher Gladys Berry:
“Exceptional as these results are, they do not come as a surprise to me,” she said.
“The school’s A-level results have improved year on year for the last five years and the maturity and determination with which Year 13 tackled their examinations, combined with the excellent teaching that they received, meant that their success was always assured.”
One student who got what she was hoping for was 18-year-old Seema Ahmed, who will be going on to Queen Mary University to study international relations in September.
Seema was so dedicated while studying for her exams that she was “up at four in the morning in the Easter holidays perfecting every single paragraph” of her English literature coursework.
“It has been really intense and a lot of sweat and tears,” she said.
“I can honestly say it has been the hardest I have ever worked. I just wanted to do the best I could.”
