Highgate Harriers sprinter Nina Anderson may have finished top of the UK ratings in both of her events this year, but the 43-year-old has been disappointed with her progress in 2015.

Anderson ran a season’s best time of 26 minutes 37 seconds to secure her place in the 200m final of the World Masters Championship in Lyon earlier this month, but by the end of the tournament she only had a bronze medal from the 400m to show for her efforts.

Speaking after the competition she said: “This year has been difficult because I have been struggling without my coach [her husband and ex-Olympic decathlete, Greg Richards], who is currently working abroad.

“I certainly feel I’ve missed out on much-needed technical input and of course emotional support.

“Training had been satisfactory but racing hadn’t, so it was a very unusual situation to be going into these championships without having already established good race times to give me confidence.

“I ran a season’s best of 26:37 to secure my place in the 200m final but then could only manage fourth place (26:52) and felt my lack of experience in this event was evident and that there is still much more for me to learn.

“In the 400m I secured a bronze medal with another season’s best of 58.02 and, while gold was way out of my reach, silver was within my physical capabilities.

“So it was a very disappointing run, which I will analyse with Greg to try to ascertain what I executed incorrectly.

“I plan to have an easy 2016 with no major championships and then hopefully, with my coach returning to the UK, will start afresh for the 2017 European Championships.”

Highgate sprinter Jean Coker recorded season’s best times in both the 100m (23.73) and 200m (50.97) at the World Masters Championships.

Elsewhere, Shaun Dixon was victorious for the Hercules Wimbledon team in a festival night at Wimbledon Park Stadium.

Dixon won the 5,000m race in 14:23.55, with Andy Maud (14:24.08) following closely behind him.
