Islington’s rich/poor divide is well documented - but the Islington Giving charity has helped 60 people see that for themselves.

Last Friday, it took residents and businesses on a 13-mile walk around the borough’s border: starting in Old Street and going through Finsbury Park, Tufnell Park and King’s Cross.

The “Walk the Line” boundary challenge allowed the hikers to see famous sites such as Highgate Cemetery and Regent’s Canal.

But with one in five people living in poverty, a spokeswoman for the charity added: “It also offered the chance for people to see all aspects of Islington life, and to understand more about the disparities that lie at the heart of the borough.”

Islington Giving is an independent group of funders, businesses, residents and voluntary organisations working together to tackle poverty and equality in the borough. For more information, visit islingtongiving.org.uk
