A MAN was struck around the head by a burglar after he woke to find the intruder in his flat.
The 22-year-old victim was sleeping with the patio door unlocked in York Way, Holloway, at 9.50am on Sunday October 2 when someone appeared in his lounge.
The intruder told the victim to go back to sleep and not to look at his face.
He then hit him on the head and left via the balcony, taking various items of property.
The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) recently launched a burglary prevention campaign "lock before you leave", which aims to raise the awareness of homeowners about the importance of locking their doors.
Assistant Commissioner Ian McPherson, head of MPS Territorial Policing, said: "Although most residential burglaries involve criminals forcing their way into homes, many thefts occur when suspects simply walk in or climb in.
"Our simple message is always 'lock before you leave'. If your home is locked up and secure, burglars will find it much harder to get in."
- An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of the York Way burglary and bailed to return to police at a later date.
