A betting shop company boss is gearing up for a gruelling 100km charity trek across the Sahara Desert to raise cash for a charity tackling the scourge of gambling addiction.

Phil Gibbs, marketing manager for the Cashino Gaming chain – which has a branch in Holloway Road, Holloway – is part of a group of 24 individuals representing different sectors of the gambling industry who will embark on the five-day challenge on March 22.

The group aims to raise £50,000 for the Responsible Gambling Trust, which seeks to discourage irresponsible gambling and provides treatment for people suffering from addiction.

Mr Gibbs said: “As a company, Cashino Gaming is a major supporter of the Responsible Gambling Trust. We want our customers to have a fantastic time with us, but we do our utmost to ensure they gamble responsibly.

“I hope as many people as possible will help me to reach my goal. I’m going to try my very best, even if I do have to cosy up to a camel.”
