A church at the heart of the Holloway community will celebrate its 200th birthday this weekend.

St Mary Magdalene’s in Holloway Road was opened by the bishop of London in 1814 and the bishop will visit on Sunday as part of three days of bicentenary celebrations.

Tomorrow there will be jazz music in the church grounds from 6.30 to 8.30pm while Saturday will see a free fun day.

A celebration service attended by the Bishop will kick things off on Sunday at 10am and the day will finish with a hog roast at 5pm.

Rev Paul Zaphiriou, vicar at the church, said: “The church is a big part of the community and we expect lots of people of all ages to turn out over the weekend for this two and a half day festival.”
