A pair of teenagers will set off on a bike ride all the way to Bristol and back to raise cash for the Ben Kinsella Trust.

Brodie Couzins and Euan Taylor-Reid, both 15, embark on the 180-mile round trip on Monday and hope to bring in several hundred pounds for the trust, a charity set up to tackle knife crime.

Just like Brodie, Ben was a pupil at Holloway School, in Hilldrop Road, when he was tragically stabbed to death in 2008.

His family set up the trust in the wake of his death and recently launched a knife crime awareness exhibition in Finsbury Park to teach youngsters about the dangers of carrying blades.

Brodie, who lives in Bardolph Road, came up with the idea for the bike ride after he raised 300 for the same cause by visiting all of London’s league football grounds in a day.

He said: “I felt there is a lot of bad stuff circulating about young people and I thought if you can get two teenagers from an area like Holloway, where there are gangs, and show we are doing something good, it would help our image.

“It’s a really good cause. I have friends who have been stabbed and it isn’t nice.

“The bike ride will be hard, but we will definitely finish it and it should be a lot of fun as well.”

Brodie has enlisted the help of his friend Eaun, a pupil at Highbury Grove School, in Highbury Grove.

Euan, who lives in Highbury New Park, said: “I have always wanted to do a long bike ride like this, so I was up for it straight away. It is brilliant that it is going to such a good cause.

“When we come back there is a little get-together and Ben’s mum should be there.

“It’s good to know the family is right behind us.”

The pair will travel to Bristol via the Kennet and Avon Canal and the River Thames, stopping overnight in Pewsey and Maidenhead on the way back, finishing in Islington.

Kathy Elson, a patron of the Ben Kinsella Trust said: “We wish Brodie and Euan success on their adventure and send a big thank you from everyone here.”
