Last year, Islington Council rejected six three-storey terraced houses in George’s Road. The committee claimed “inappropriate” design.

Residents had protested against the development, claiming it would “loom over” the street.

But developers SE1 Property Services have lodged an appeal with the Planning Inspectorate to overturn the council’s decision.

To demonstrate their continued opposition, George’s Road residents raised 10m-high poles with bunting to emphasise the height of the proposed houses.

Artist Bobby Baker said: “It’s difficult to understand the impact of what might be built from architect’s drawings. I always thought the proposal was too tall, but these poles really showed the excessive scale.

“It would loom over the street - I’m quite shocked.”
