Alex Webb Brown, 15, got to grip with a sewing machine as part of a project to teach teens how to up-cycle – the sustainable craze of turning unwanted stuff into desirable items.

More than 50 young people have been heading to The Zone at Holloway School, in Hilldrop road, to find out how to transform their old clothes into new garments.

Alex said: “I would normally have thrown away any of my clothes that were ripped but now I know how I can fix them.

“I really enjoy the making process. I wasn’t familiar with using a sewing machine before, but now I feel confident using one.”

Any young people aged 11 to 18 who want to come to the sessions can drop in Monday to Thursday 3 to 9pm or Friday 3 to 5pm, or call 020 7697 9242.
