A campaigner from Holloway is desperate to stop the execution of prisoners in her motherland.

Touran Ranjivar, 51, went on hunger strike outside the US embassy for 101 days over the massacre of some 51 Iranian dissidents in Iraq in September.

Now she and fellow Iranians across the world are attempting to turn the focus on the current regime’s alarming rate of capital punishment, with political prisoners being executed every day.

Iran overtook China in 2013 in terms of executions per capita from official figures released, including women and children.

Touran’s brother was executed when she fled the country more than 30 years ago and her friend, a political prisoner, is in jail awaiting his death.

She was one of scores of Iranians from across the UK protesting outside the foreign office in downing street on Saturday.

“These are only the executions that are official, there are more than 350 secret ones that also happened last year,” said Touran of Tufnell Park.

“The British government know what is going on but Iran is the second largest producer of oil in the world.

“We want David Cameron to condemn this attack on prisoners, it has already been condemned by Amnesty International.”
