St Mungo’s has launched a new volunteer programme where people can contribute their time to help tackle homelessness in Islington.
The First Response initiative is currently operating in Islington, Westminster, Tower Hamlets and City of London and so far more than 150 Londoners have signed up as volunteers.
The project aims to to reduce long-term rough sleeping, help outreach teams track down tough sleepers faster, and incease engagement with companies and the community.
Volunteer coordinator Alice Soper said: “The First Response programme is already making a real difference to our work and how we are supporting vulnerable rough sleepers across London. From young professionals to ex-accountants to couples volunteering together, it’s been really encouraging to see.”
