A community came together to enjoy a host of activities at an estate funday on Friday.
Highlights of the event at the New Orleans Estate in Hornsey Rise included fire engines on show, lessons from Islington Boxing Club, football coaching by Arsenal FC, face painting, a barbecue and a DJ session.
The day, also attended by Islington North MP Jeremy Corbyn, was organised by the estate’s Tenants and Residents Association (TRA) with help and funding from Homes for Islington (HfI).
Tracey Willoughby, chair of the TRA, said: “It was a real community event for all in the Hillrise area, it brought the community together. People were visiting from Crouch Hill and other surrounding estates.
“It was a fantastic day, there were about 100 people and they really enjoyed it. I’ve been getting inundated with phone calls from people asking when the next one is and I’ve also been asked to help at another event happening in the other end of the borough.
“It just goes to show that when you see things positive happening it does rub off on other people. It’s all about making Islington a happier place to live in.”
