A pub landlord has threatened to shut down his Hornsey Road boozer after being slapped with a noise nuisance notice following a fundraiser for a paralysed stab victim.

The event at the Corner Flag raised more than £2,000 for Darren Harrison, who was left with no feeling in his right side after a horrific attack in his home on January 26.

Friends and family of Darren, who is blind, arranged the do to help him in his recovery at Stoke Mandeville hospital, which has one of the best specialist spinal units in the world.

But the positivity was shattered when landlord Peter Ellingham received a letter from Islington Council on Monday morning containing a “section 80 notice” over the noise levels from the pub.

Peter now believes his pub is being vilified.

He said: “We feel like closing the business because everything we do is met with council condemnation.

“We’ve struggled since we opened the pub in February last year. That premises was boarded up for the last three years and we took it over and decorated it all.

“They say there’s noise outside the pub, but how am I going to tell an 18-stone man after 10 pints at 11pm that he can’t stand on the pavement outside?

“They’ve got to realise we’re selling legalised drugs. If alcohol was invented now it wouldn’t be allowed. But we can’t get through to them and I just think: ‘What’s the point?’”

The council licensing officer told Peter the notice was served after complaints of noise from outside the pub and noise from a microphone inside. A noise pollution officer had visited the pub on the night and spoken to a barman about the issue.

In a letter to him, seen by the Gazette, one officer wrote: “You must ensure any visiting performers are correctly plugged into the limiter system. It is your responsibility to ensure that no nuisance arises from the premises. This was not the case on the night in question.”

Donations to Darren’s fundraiser can still be made here.

Terry Jobber has been charged with attempted murder over the stabbing and is set to go on trial at the Old Bailey in June.
