About 1,800 people turned up to a free play day.

The annual event, organised by staff from Islington’s 12 adventure playgrounds, was held at Paradise Park, off Mackenzie Road, Holloway, last week.

Youngsters zoomed down zip wires, learned how to build dens and even got to use a real fire hose with the London Fire Brigade (LFB).

Anita Grant, from Islington Play Association, said: “Play is every child’s right as enshrined in the UN convention on the rights of the child and the Islington partnership is at the forefront of ensuring that children get the freedom and opportunity to explore their world through freely chosen, intrinsically motivated play to enable them to fulfil their potential, build their resilience and be happy.

“Playday this year certainly made a lot of children happy.”
