Islington Green was once again packed for the seventh annual Menorah lighting festival on Sunday.

The Menorah lighting marks Chanukah and celebrates Islington’s Jewish community. There were hundreds present despite the cold and wet weather.

Among them was Islington North MP and Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.

There was fire walking, fire performances, live sets by The London Klezmer Quartet, arts and crafts by the Jewish Museum London, face painting and free doughnuts – which Mr Corbyn was spotted taking advantage of.

The event was put on by Chabad Islington, the borough’s only Jewish institution.

As reported in the Gazette last December, the group was set up by Rabbi Mendy Korer in 2011 after Islington’s Jewish community had been left without a community group since the North London Synagogue, in Lofting Road, Barnsbury, shut in 1958.
