A Cally leaseholder has accused a housing trust of negligence after a pipe burst in her block.

People in the Muriel Street Estate were left without running water after an explosion and flooding in the early hours of Wednesday.

Amanda Baker, who has lived in her seventh floor flat for 43 years, said she warned Peabody three times in the past seven weeks without sufficient action being taken: “I always use the stairwell,” she told the Gazette, “as I hate the lift. There was a really strange noise in the pipes. It sounded like a blockage.

“The noise was unbearable on Tuesday night – I thought the pipes were going to explode in the property. I then looked out the window and water was pumping out of the block.

“Tall blocks are a topic of conversation [in the wake of the Grenfell Tower disaster], especially when they’re not being looked after. I’m concerned they don’t take notice of us.”

The Gazette contacted Peabody for comment on Friday.
