Arsenal legend Ian Wright has backed a campaign to overturn a ban on a lifelong Gooner entering the Emirates Stadium.

Mick Doherty, a board member of Islington Boxing Club, was told he could not enter the ground last year after being involved in a fight at the Fonthill pub, in Fonthill Road, Finsbury Park.

Mr Doherty, who says the incident was not football related, pleaded guilty and served 180 hours community service – but police have insisted the ban remains.

Now the former Gunners striker has put his weight behind a petition which has already garnered almsot 2,500 signatures.

Mr Doherty said; “It was at a boxing event.

“He told me he was very happy to pose with the shirt

“He seemed quite au fait with the case

“I hope it helps - I just want as many people to know about this as possible.”
