Over 120 young men aged 14-17 took part in the Peace Cup football tournament on Sunday.

Now in its fourth year, the annual tournament held in Market Road, Holloway, was organised by the Islington Faiths Forum to bring people together from different faiths.

Sponsored by Islington Council and local business ‘Absolute Print Ltd’, the event saw a total of ten teams from various faith groups take part, with Finsbury Park Mosque taking home the cup.

Roz Miller of the Islington Faiths Forum, said: “These young men turned up in their football gear looking really determined. The matches were very competitive and there was a lot of really good football played.

She added: “It’s a great way to channel so much energy and to get young people together from different locations and backgrounds in Islington.”

The football tournament is just one activity organised by the charity for the Islington Month of Peace. The organisation is also delivering 24 Peace Assemblies in Islington schools, with the theme ‘What faiths say about peace’.
